O Doutrinador Definitivo: A Brazilian Vigilante Taking Down the State Monster in Comics
Category: comics

Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I posted about comics here – the stack of graphic novels just keeps growing, right? But after finishing O Doutrinador Definitivo, I felt compelled to share.
Release Date: 2013-2018
Rating: ⭐ 8.0/10
Context
Created in 2013 by Luciano Cunha, this character is a gut punch to Brazilian reality: a masked vigilante hunting down the corrupt vultures bleeding the country dry. With sharp social critique, brutal action, and a dose of vigilante justice – all without mincing words about how bloated systems and power parasites destroy everything good in humanity. Hero or anti-hero? Some say he’s the hero we need, others say he’s the one we deserve.
This 2021 compilation by Super Prumo brings together three stories:
1. Doutrinador
No beating around the bush – it kicks off with the Doutrinador delivering justice against the country’s various vultures. On this journey, he seeks justice across Brazilian cities, and one of the most impactful scenes is when he blows up Congress in Brasília using a car. Another character who emerges is Paulo Dantas, a journalist who recognizes the Doutrinador’s impact live on air and is subsequently fired – because yes, the mainstream press is rotten to the core (with few exceptions), and this isn’t just in Brazil but worldwide. Like many hero stories, we get the detective figure, which is what Paulo Dantas becomes, working alongside the Doutrinador (whom he nicknamed Dantão), becoming a key piece for future stories.
Like every hero who can’t hit 100%, he gets caught in his final act, but goes out in historic fashion: blowing up everything and everyone there (including himself)! He was the first Doutrinador, an elite soldier from Brazil’s military government, villain long enough to know the real enemy and become a hero. He was Agent Seven.
2. Dark Web
After some time following the first Doutrinador’s death, a strange figure emerges in a cancerous organism: an honest politician! With intelligence, he exposed the connections between Brasília and drug trafficking. He worked with Dantão and the help of a super hacker kid. He was elevated to the nation’s highest office… temporarily. He is Sergio Ferraz, the second Doutrinador!
3. Apocalipse BSB
This publication was made in 2017. During this period, author Luciano Cunha was involved in the movie and series of Doutrinador, so he no longer had time to write and draw. Thus, he compiled short stories he had previously released online.
Here, a super special agent who lost what he loved most because of the powerful. With the strength of the people fueling his spirit, he did the unthinkable. And he is the third Doutrinador!
Other Media
Doutrinador’s success was so massive that in 2018 his movie The Awakener was released, starring Kiko Pissolato, Tainá Medina, and Samuel de Assis.
A really good film, especially considering that few Brazilian movies lately have any value – most of them just talk about slums and drugs, as if there weren’t better things in the country. Plus, they’re shallow stories full of virtue signaling.
Even better than the movie was the series released in 2019 The Awakener: The Series, starring the same actors from the film. It’s a series of very high quality.
If you haven’t watched and want to start before reading the comics, it’s a great alternative.

Why Read It?
O Doutrinador Definitivo is an uncomfortable mirror of Brazil, showing the State as a demonic monster that protects the corrupt and crushes the productive. In a world of impunity, this graphic novel is a revolt in panels – brutal, honest, and necessary. If you want comics that poke at social wounds without filters, start here.
